My wife was teaching a fifth grade art class when a student turned to her and said “Miss Carol, I have a window in my room and it shows me the moon ever night”; poetry from the children. I was so touched at the beauty and pure joy in the child’s statement that I took a piece I had been working  on and retitled it: “A Window That Shows Me The Moon”.

“Window” is a poignant waltz with a difficult chord progression and a form of 9 bars, 9 bars, 9 bars and 10 bars, that sounds natural. The chart is written for saxes doubling on woodwinds but comes with optional substitute saxophone parts. The arrangement features piano and flugelhorn.

About the Composer

Trumpeter/Composer Bill Warfield has played with a long list of jazz greats from Ornette Coleman to Mel Torme to Randy Brecker.

Jazz Times says "Warfield's kind of music is a mixture of adventurous modernistic pieces, jazz tinged salsa, and post-bop hipness...as an arranger, trumpeter Warfield is a top-rate craftsman, perhaps one of the best on the scene."
